I’m 65. My Apple Watch Said “Below Average.” I Decided to Pay Attention.

That’s where this started.

I weighed 270 pounds. My waist was 50 inches. My VO2 max — a real measure of cardiovascular fitness — came back rated Below Average. I’d been walking 2+ miles a day and thought that counted for something. The data said otherwise.

So instead of looking away from the numbers, I started tracking everything. Real walks, real heart rate, real results — including the ones that didn’t go the way I planned. I built my own walking workout cards, tested them on my actual morning walks in Reno, and wrote down exactly what happened.

That’s this site. Not a program from someone who’s already in shape. Not generic advice from a 40-year-old trainer. One 65-year-old figuring it out in public, with an Apple Watch on his wrist and enough stubbornness to write it all down.

The fastest way in is the Walk & Strengthen card deck.

Card 1 is free. It’s a complete walking workout — 5 strength stops built into your normal walk, no gym, no equipment, no soreness hangover. I tested it on my 2.2-mile loop in Reno and published the Apple Watch data in the post.

Drop your email and I’ll send Card 1 straight to your inbox.

Products I Actually Use

Three things on this list I use every single day: my Apple Watch Ultra, my Brooks walking shoes, and compression knee sleeves that showed up after Card 3 gave my knees something to say.

What This Isn’t

Not a before-and-after from someone who was already close. Not a supplement sales page. Not advice from someone who doesn’t know what a bad knee feels like at 65.

It’s one guy, taking the data seriously, writing it down. Welcome.
